Sometimes I am lucky enough to travel with people I like.

Rarely but occasionally I am forced to business-travel with people I could just as soon live without.

In the latter case, I am (selfishly) not inclined to share any of my personal-favorite SF haunts, yet I don't want to disappoint my guest by taking them someplace that is lousy.
And don't get me wrong - Anzu is good with some interesting stuff on the menu.

Anzu is imo perfect for business dinners.
Food is interesting - ambience / atmosphere slightly upscale.

and the menu is varied with enough personality to satisfy most business travelers just off the plane, checked in,

and desperately in need of dinner & a few well prepared, visually-pleasing yet stiff cocktails.

Anzu's self-proclaimed culinary mission statement is: "EuroJapanese...artfully presented."

Hey, whatever. I had zero complaints, meal was good, made for conversation, and bottom line, it was an expense dinner.
Who am I to look a gift uma in the mouth?

(My apologies if this is your "special place" and / or the place you proposed to the great love of your life)

Favorite Dish: I recommend prime steak with an appetizer of sushi, washed down w/ beaucoup cocktails (call a cab or stagger back to hotel). They serve much more creative and tasty stuff, like Wagyu beef cooked on a black rock at your table or muscovy duck - (see website).

Good quality and satisfying enough for you and any insignificant other.

Not cheap if you order well and try to get drunk. Easily around $150 for two.

I personally like Michael Bauer, and here is his Anzu review
