"Isa Bey Mosque" Ephesus Things to Do Tip by Lyndra
Ephesus Things to Do: 365 reviews and 729 photos
The mosque in Selculk was built in 1375 and is special because it is the oldest known mosque with an additional courtyard feature.
The mosque is not always open for visitors (but does be open for prayer) so you will be very lucky to get inside but if it is you should have a look as the arabic art/insciptions are lovely.
The mosque is partially built from the stones that built Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis - recycling at it's best! On the steps leading into the mosque you can see a sarcophogus inlais into the staircase, super! The Imam is a wonderfully friendly man and there is no entrance charge (however a donation is always appreciated to maintain the expensive upkeep of this building). Head covers are available in the mosque and of course footwera is not allowed.
Address: Selcuk
Directions: Beside the ruins of the Temple of Artemis
