In Aarhus you can visit one of my favorite museums in Denmark : Den Gamle By means "the old town" and it is an open-air-museum of old farmhouses, shops, wind- and watermills etc. that were taken from all parts of Danmark and having been re-constructed in this museum again. That way they are forming a small village of its own nowadays, including all the facilities of a town : a river runs through it, you may see ducks and geese in the street and in the ponds.
All of the staff-members will be dressed in old costumes and they will show you, what life was like some hundreds of years ago. Everything is so peacful in this part of Arhus, although the "real life" with all of its car-noises etc. is just a few meters away. But this museum is perfectely surrounded partly by walls, partly by bushes and trees, so you never have a chance to see a shine of the reality , when walking through "Den Gammle By"
