The neo-baroque building of the Commedy Theatre is the most beautiful sight on the Szent István körút(Saint Stephen`s Ring), the first part of the Nagykörút (Big Ring). The contruction of this theatre dates back to 1896, the year when Hungary celebrated the 1000th anniversary of the occupation of the territory of Hungary. Designed by austrian Fellner and the russian Helmer who were the most famous theatre-architects in Central Europe. They created nothing less then 48 theatres all over Europe. In the second world war the theatre suffered terrific damages, but fortunately it was restored on the original plans in 1951 and was given back its legendary name..
