This is definitely my husband's favourite shop. His problem is that he has no spare 450,000 NZ dollars... Still... this is no real shopping tip - although I could list it in the category "Toys" ;-) Toys for men!
Have a look at the fantastic cars that are on offer at Fazazz in Lichfield Street. Even I love this shop which - as I do not have those spare 450,000 dollars either - is more a museum to me than a shop. But all cars you can see there are for sale, the Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Morgan, Mercedes... Some would even be a bargain for about 20,000 or so.
You must not be a petrolhead to admire those vintage cars. They are just perfectly beautiful and sparkling, I have never seen the tiniest dust on them. I bet they get hand-polished every day.
Already the rooms themselves are beautiful with their old wooden floors. The antique interior matches those wonderful cars perfectly. The shop is really a shop, not a typical car dealer's hall, and it is surrounded by other totally normal shops or cafés. You look into the window, and instead of clothes or books you see Christchurch's most beautiful cars :-) They get them into the rooms through a wide back door. I have also seen some few motocycles there, and books about the NZ great John Britten.
You also find Formula 1 and other car memorabilia in the shop, as well as car magazines , books and interesting accessories, and art works as well. They also have a lot of stuff about the history of New Zealand motoring, and of course, feature the Formula 1 greats Bruce McLaren and Denis Hulme. Fazazz is THE place to go for car enthusiasts.
The shop was opened in 1989, and should originally be just a retail shop for motoring memorabilia and collectables. But by the time it has developed into a showcase for automobiles. There are always about 20 cars on display - and for sale, as I already mentioned.
What To Buy:
Perhaps a Rolls Royce or the red Ferrari... ;-)
What To Pay:
From 18,000 to 450,000 NZ$ when I was there the last time LOL
