"Diet Coke and Water" Peru Favorite Tip by Juyish

Peru General: 206 reviews and 170 photos

Favorite thing: I would suggest if you are are feeling quesy start drinking diet coke or coke, don't drink the local water unless it has been bottled. The water in Peru has a lot of minerals that may play havoc on your system.
Peru is beautiful, I would suggest Three to four days in Aguas Calenties to get to take advantage of the springs, hikes and historical sites in that area.
Lima, this I would suggest two days because it is a pretty city which you can do with a tour guide and take on the sites from this city.
Cuzco- two days in this city are good to explore and also can be a jumping board to other small cities, but overall this area has a lot of exploration waiting to be taken. This area is broken up into districts and the best way around here is going with someone that knows where to take you because it really is in the mountains and very townish. I would suggest a tour guide to get the most out of this area.

Fondest memory: My best memories were in Aguas Calientes, eating at a resturant where it overlooked the river, the water being turned off for four hours and laughing at the thought of not being able to flush, climbing Macchu Picho at 6:00 am and watching the cloud coverings unveil the magnificant sight of this ancient city.
Seeing Llamas walking about and making friends with strangers as they were going up and we were descending to the bottom again from Macchu Piccho.
Other memories would be walking through a parade in Puno and seeing the excitment on the faces of the children as the festivities continued throughtout the streets at night.
Walking on temple sites that were over 2000 years old and being able to touch that part of history.
