"To the limit and beyond..." Portsmouth Things to Do Tip by Jenniflower

this is the title given to this statue.

It isnt a particularly stunning statue, what caught my eye at first was the wheel. I then had to find out what it was for!

Basically, this bronze statue (and the field gun) commemorates all Portsmouth Command men who competed in the field gun event at the annual Royal Tournament, who also trained at the Royal Naval Barracks, between 1947 and 1999, when the tournament ended.

I have to admit to being a tad disappointed at this...as I thought it would probably commemorate local and/or naval men who had died in one of the wars perhaps, not this.

It obviously meant a lot to the locals though, else there wouldnt be a statue commemorating it!
