"Benbow figurehead" Portsmouth Things to Do Tip by Jenniflower

Portsmouth Things to Do: 130 reviews and 270 photos

This impressive figurehead stands right in the middle of the gangway as you walk towards the HMS Victory.

It comes from the Benbow, one of the largest largest battleships ever built!

It was named after Admiral John Benbow, who commandered this ship, and stood where Gunwharf Quays are today, but was repositioned here when Gunwharf Quays was developed.

I don't know the exact height of it but it stands a lot taller than my husband, and he's just under 6 foot.

Directions: Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Visitor Centre, Victory Gate, HM Naval Base, Portsmouth PO1 3LJ (too long for address tab)
