"Nights in Thission" Athens Nightlife Tip by littlesam1

The Thission area is full of late night tavernas not necessarily frequented by the tourists. Our hotel was in this neighborhood. We were surrounded by friendly tavernas and restaurants. After our busy day of sight seeing and walking, Mark and I returned each evening for an evening of relaxing at the tavernas. Most of the bars are opened to the street with confortable couches and chairs to relax on while watching the flow of cars and pedestrians go by. The majority of the people here late at night are local people. The narrow street seems to be filled with a line of traffic driving throught the area. Food is served until late in the evenings. Most of the tavernas are open until the early morning hours and seem to be lively all night. Music can be heard playing from taverna to taverna. One even had a large screen with music video's playing on the street.

The people working at the tavernas here could not have been nicer or friendlier. One evening we left a tip for our waitress. She returned with change telling us we did not leave her that much of a tip. Another evening we spent a lot of time talking with our waitress and joking with her. When it was time to leave she told us to please don't leave a tip. She said you guys were so much fun and I liked serving you. Is it any wonder why I feel in love with the people of Greece.
