  Awning at Laila
by mikey_e

Bloor West between Spadina and Bathurst has a number of Levantine (either Syrian or Lebanese) restaurants. Laila's is the restaurant with seating that offers the best dishes (but certainly not the best food - see Ghazale). The owners, an elderly Lebanese couple, cook up the food themselves, but the fact that most people come here for either falafel or shawarma means that the dishes under the heatlamps are not exceedingly fresh, and sometimes the rice is over or underdone. Nevertheless, most of the food is quite decent, as are the prices, and the atmosphere is friendly and quiet.

Favorite Dish: Shish tawook, a platter with grilled chicken, salad and lentil rice.

Address: Bloor St W across from Bloor Cinema
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Directions: Bathurst Street station
Price: less than US$10
Rating: 3
Theme: Middle Eastern
