The built of the church began in the year 1670 after the plans of Baldassare Longhena.
The building was finished in a time period of 35 years.
The façade of the church was created by the artist G. Sardi, in Venetian Baroque and Classic style.
A part of the fescues of the church was destroyed during the First World War, and then it was rebuilt.
In the inside of the church is the tomb of the last doge of Venice, Ludovico Manin.
The elegant building is an important edifice, next to the Train Station of Venice, on the shore of the Canal Grande.
