Roman Forum - Curia, Rome: 8 reviews and 16 photos
The rather uninteresting rectangular red brick building in the Roman Forum is the Curia Julia, house of the senate of Rome. The boring exterior is deceiving as the interior has a beautiful and amazingly-preserved marble floor. It also has some fading frescos on the walls and an Altar of Peace. The existing Curia dates from the 3rd century AD, but the original structure (Curia Hostilia) existed on the site since the 7th century BC, followed by several reconstructions of the building. In the 7th century AD, the building was turned into the Church of Saint Hadrian, which helped to preserve the structure.
