Egyptian Moscow really situated in the Pushkin museum of Fine Arts. The unique collection of Vladimir Semenovich Golenischeff is exhibited there.

The Statue of Pharaoh Amenemhet III — is a superb specimen of Egyptian sculptural portrait of the period. Portraits found in the end of the XIX century in the tombs by the oasis Faiyum, Central Egypt are the earliest examples of painting in the Museum's collection.

V.S. Golenischeff was the first Russian professional Egyptologist. In his youth he was greatly interested in Egyptology. First of all his name is connected with the world famous collection which is known to be the core of the Egyptian collection kept in the Pushkin museum of Fine Arts. V.S. Golenischeff began gathering Egyptian antiquities in his youth and considered this matter to be very important.

When he visited Egypt he always tried to find a new monument. The fate was favorable to him: he was a well to do man and succeeded in buying about six thousand valuable monuments of Egyptian antiquity. In addition he took part in sixty archaeological and epigraphic expeditions.

Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts consists of 6 buildings - four at the Volkhonka st., and two more in other parts of the city.

Museum Complex at Volkhonka includes Main Building, Gallery, Museum of Private Collections & Educational Center "Museion". To visit all four at once you can buy a Guest Pass.
