"Museum: Rockoxhuis" Rockoxhuis Museum Tip by andreakirkby

Rockoxhuis Museum, Antwerp: 3 reviews and 2 photos

This was the house of Nicolaas Rockox, burgomaster of Antwerp and one of Rubens' major patrons. It's a lovely little house and I prefer it to the Rubens house; you get a feeling of what it must have been like to live here, with the fine furnishings, paintings (including a couple of lovely small Rubens pictures), stained glass, and a nice arcaded courtyard.

And the staff are very friendly; I was there out of season, the only person in the museum, and they put the excellent film about Rockox on specially for me. If you don't find the lurking cat in the fish market scene, ask one of the staff to show you - it's a joke I can imagine Rockox and Rubens enjoying after a few glasses of wine.
