"Vaporetto's are very good...." Vaporetto - Water Bus Tip by steventilly

Vaporetto - Water Bus, Venice: 168 reviews and 245 photos

Vaporetto's are very good. Much cheaper than a Gondola (though less romantic) they are an excellent way of not only getting from island to island, but also of seeing Venice from the water, which is a must in itself.

Any trip of any duration is the same price. So one stop down the Grand Canal or a 1 hour trip to the islands or Punta Sabbioni - all the same price. Bear it in mind.

A single ticket is 3 Euro, a return is 5, and you can get unlimited journey passes for the Vaporetto's that cover differing periods: a 72 hour pass is 18 Euro and a weekly pass is only about 31 Euro. This is great value. (Prices correct at June 2002)
The routes, numbers and times are constantly changing. Don't trust any book you may have, even if you just bought it - check locally. In general there are boats to EVERYWHERE 24 hours a day. By day usually every 10 or 20 munutes, by night maybe only every 30 minutes (1 hour for the Northern Lagoon). You'll never get stranded somewhere, so don't worry. Even on Torcello, where the regular service stops calling in the late evening, there is a freephone where you can call to request a pickup from the Burano service.
