  Michelangelo's tomb

This is my favorite church of all the ones I visited in Florence ( and not because there was a Slow Food Festival outside the day we came ;o)) If you only have time for one church -- this would be the one to visit. I would call this place the Renaissance in a nutshell. The tombs of famous Florentines are in this church, including Michelangelo's, plus there are frescoes here by Giotto and Gaddi. In the church also is the Pazzi Chapel designed by Brunelleschi.

After spending time here, make sure and take a break at Florence's oldest gelatria (and we think the best!) Vivoli's, which is closeby. The piazza is known as the home to leather shops in Florence -- I personally found better prices and less shark-like salespeople in Oltrarno.

Address: Piazza di Santa Croce, Florence
Directions: Marked well on tourist maps or you can follow the signs in Central Florence
