when in Lviv, make sure to save a night or two for visiting the Opera House. Not only will you get the pleasure of enjoying the opera/ballet performances, but also see the splendid opera building. The theater is built between 1897-1900 by Gorgolevsky in classical traditions with the use of the forms and details of the Renaissance and baroque architecture, or in the so-called ?Viennese pseudo-renaissance.? The theater, generously decorated as inside and outside is considered to be one of three best opera house buildings in Europe.

the tickets are very moderately priced compared to the most European countries (as low as $2 for the third balcony and as no more than $10 for orchestra seats). My absolute favorites there are ?La Boheme? by Puccini and ?Aida? by Verdi.

In most cases, there is no need to reserve tickets in advance (unless you have particular seats in mind). a box office person most likely will understand (or speak) Polish but that?s it. But s he will try to help you in any rate. If you want to practice your Ukrainian or impress her with you knowledge of Ukrainian you can say: ?Dva (try, chtotyry) kvytky na syohodni na vechir, bud-laska? (Two (three, four) tickets for tonight, please). and ?Diakuyu? (thank you)

All evening operas and ballets start at 6:00pm. there are also matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

Directions: very center of the city, 28 Svobody (Independence) Sq.
