"Venture Down to Southern Lazio" Lazio Off The Beaten Path Tip by NonnaLou

The region of South Lazio is so rich in natural beauty, history and culture. There is something of interest to be found around every corner, yet is virtually undiscovered by foreign tourists.

This is still “Real Italy”, unlike “Chianitishire” - Tuscany / Umbria which are now inundated with Brit Ex Pats.

We liked it so much here, when we came on holiday several years ago that we decided to sell up in the UK and live in Italy permanently.

We settled in the little town of Itri which nestles in the foothills of the Aurunci Mountains and forms part of the Aurunci National Park.

It is within easy reach of the numerous local golden sandy beaches along the spectacular Riviera D’Ullise coastline, an area still largely undiscovered by foreign tourists.

The beaches are said to be the best South of Rome and North of Naples and for most of the year are virtually deserted, and for several years now have been awarded the European Blue Flag for their crystal clear water.

Nearby are the seaside towns of Gaeta, Sperlonga, Terracina and Formia.
