Het Schip, Amsterdam: 5 reviews and 12 photos

The Musuem Het Schip is located in what was the old post office this was also designed by Michel De Klerk. This post office was in operation for 78 years. The restoration work included uncovering the amazing blue panelling. There is an interesting telephone booth which has a double door to make your calls very private. You can see many unusual details incorporated in his design which add some humour for example the telephone booth depicts birds to carry the message down the wire.

Outside designed into the wall are a collection of crows waiting to take the message to the air. The masonary was done by Hildo Krop giving the building a voice of its own externally mimicking the indoor function perhaps.

There is a computer exhibition about the life of Michel De Klerk & his family as well as information surrounding the Amsterdam School
