In the cathedral there are stairs leading down to the gift shop. When you turn right
instead of left and pay another 3 Euro, you can go to the crypt Santa Reparata. This used to be the cathedral of Florence before the Duomo was built.
There is a cordoned-off pathway which takes you among the excarvations, very interesting to walk around there.
A floor mosaic was discovered, also very old wall frescoes and tomb stones.
This church was destroyed when the Duomo was built, so what you see is from before
1375.

Address: Piazza Del duomo
Directions: Underneath the Duomo and accessed from inside.
