Gravensteen - Castle of the Counts, Gent: 79 reviews and 188 photos

This is The Castle of The Counts Of Flanders or s' Gravensteen to give it it's shorter title!

Built around 1177 it is very much a castle as we expect one to be. Big and strong, surrounded by a moat and with a large central courtyard which contains the Count's mansion. The whole castle is very much intact and you can wander through it for hours.

When we visited there were people about in costumes from that period, who were simply there to add to the atmosphere. I do not know if this is a regular occurance.

Address: Nearby the Veerleplein.
