"Roman pools" Gafsa Things to Do Tip by maykal

The two Roman pools are really the only things worth seeing in Gafsa. They're not particularly hard to find...just head in the general direction of the great mosque and dive into one of the backstreets which will take you to the square. The pools are quite deep, the water very clear, and they are still used today as swimming holes for local kids. The weather was a bit chilly on my visit, so only a few feet were brave enough to splash in the water and I didn't get to see all the kids diving in for coins like other VTers have done.
Around the square are various other attractions...a tourist office (closed), a museum (also shut...it was a monday), a music academy (look out for the archways beside one of the pools), and possibly the best attraction, a cafe.
(Yes...they are the same pictures as the ones in the intro...well spotted! I didn't take many here...)
Directions: In the medina, about a ten minute walk from central Gafsa.
