According to their website, it is the biggest silk manufacturing factory in Uzbekistan where most of the work is done by hand and where mostly natural dyes are used to colour the silk. From what I saw I believe it, the site is huge and except for the silk cocoon part (it was not the time of year for the cocoons to be collected and “processed”), every other part was busy with people doing their work. It is a lovely site as well, lot of trees provide shade, the people were chatting and making jokes but that didn’t keep them from doing their work with a lot of accurateness.
In addition to silk weaving on wooden looms and machines, silk carpets are made here and also cotton is processed.
A tour through the site is free of charge. Christina Zoya was giving the tour, she has an enormous knowledge about every step, she also explains excellent, lets you touch everything to feel the fragility of a silk thread. It was a bit difficult for me to follow (the explanations) though, as partly my brain was melting and partly I didn’t take notes about the pattern making. But with a bit more reading beforehand, it would be much easier to understand this part as well.

The website below gives an excellent overview as well as details about their factory and the different silk types they are weaving. Have a detailed look, it is surely worth it.

In local customs I try to describe the process of silk manufacturing, and as I run out of space here, I’ll tell you about the shop under…. haha, shopping :-)
