"Cathedral - interior" Cathedral of Saint Mary Tip by el_ruso

Cathedral of Saint Mary, Toledo: 68 reviews and 160 photos

This is the most beautiful Gothic cathedral I have seen (granted, I have not seen a large number), and it is the primate cathedral of Spain. And is considered the most magnificent Gothic cathedral of Spain, the "Dives Toledana". The only somewhat unfortunate thing is that it is crowded into the center of a very crowded city, and it is makes it harder to appreciate its true magnificence.

It is built on site of a Visigothic basilica and a later Grand Mosque. Its construction started in XIII century after reconquest of the city and was completed mainly by the end of the XV century. The architects were Martin and Petrus Petri. There are three beautifully decorated entrances and inside there is a museum containing paintings by famous Spanish painters.

Directions: center of the city
