Balat is the former jewish neigborhood, situated next to Fener, the Greek quarter. In Balat, many jewish settled after their expulsion from Spain . There are only two synagogues remaining, and it is hard to visit them. You need to call at least one day before arriving. We found only a closed gate.
Like Fener, Balat is now a poor area.
