"Puerta de Europa" Puerta de Europa Tip by Nathalie_B

Puerta de Europa, Madrid: 5 reviews and 6 photos

This is a totally different style of architecture. KIO towers don't look like other typical, yet stunning, buildings of Madrid.
Two towers leaning towards each other and form kind of a gate, I guess this is how they got their name - Puerta de Europa. What I couldn't guess and had to reseach on was the buildings' nickname - KIO. I expected some juicy story but the explananion was simple, the towers were named after their sponsor Kuwait Investment Office.
KIO towers are known as the tallest leaning towers in the world, although I'm not sure they are taller than famous Pisa.
Surprisingly, this modern architecture doesn't spoil the look of Madrid and its older buildings in the area. I especially like the windows that reflect the street scenes. This are indeed the most remarkable modern buildings of the city and they add a lot to the fashionable Casteillana Avenue.
KIO are office buildings used by different companies, so you can't go inside, but all the beauty of the construction is outside anyway.
