"The Great Wall of China" Great Wall of China - Mutianyu Tip by kentishgirl

Where to see the wall and how to see it?

A huge question of ours. We have travelled and visited many important world landmarks and have previously had them spoiled by too many other tourists, tacky shops and expensive fees.

At the Great Wall I can say I not only learnt a little, but I found a little piece of heaven too.

The bus drops you outside the entrance. This entrance is swarming with vendors, tacky t -shirts and the like. If you don't want any of that you can walk on swiftly, pay your reasonable fee and then go up to the wall.

Getting up to the wall : It's high up! You can either walk or take the foot lift! If you're scared of heights it's probably best to walk to be honest, and walking is the cheaper option.

When we got to the wall itself, we climbed (there are thousands of small steps - it's not flat!) and walked on up to the towers and along the wall. The weather was misty and I never saw the wall snaking over the hills, instead there was a magical view of the wall partly shrouded by fog.

When you leave the wall, you can either walk, take the foot lift or take like a little toboggan thing!!

If there are crowds at the beginning of where you join the wall just climb further and soon enough you will find a secluded spot. The wall is big enough for everyone to have their own little piece of paradise.
