"Driving in Marrakech" Marrakesh Warnings Or Dangers Tip by barryg23

Marrakesh Warnings and Dangers: 111 reviews and 81 photos

Ruth had driven all over Morocco for 11 days, including some hair-raising moments on the Tizi n' Tichka pass over the Atlas, but the scariest place to drive by far was in Marrakech. We arrived about 6pm, which is one of the busiest times of day on the roads and it was extremely difficult to find our way, especially on Avenue Mohammed V, where there seem to be strange rules and drivers compete for the tiniest spaces. You also have to watch out for pedestrians and mopeds.

We were both very relived to get the car back to Europcar without a scratch and without hitting anybody or anything. We did have the option of keeping the car till the following morning but that would have meant driving to the medina - and this is much worse than the Ville Nouvelle. We saw a tourist driving in the medina a few days later and the poor guy was getting beeped at by everyone. I don't know how there aren't more accidents in Marrakech as it's absolutely chaotic on the roads.
