This building was created as the summer residence of the British Consul to Madeira Charles Murray around 1773. One of the nicknames the residence received was the "Pleasure Manor" quiet self explanatory of what went on in that house in the 19th century. Later the house was transformed into a hotel and then became an educational institution of the Priests of the Heart of Jesus.
