"Magical World of Isabella" Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum Tip by Caramelmoiselle

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston: 17 reviews and 11 photos

Kudos to the curators of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. I was completely mesmerized for the two hours that I spent in the Museum.

Stepping into the magical Venetian courtyard, with the bleak Boston winter waiting outside, is a surreal experience to say the least. The Mediterranean influences of Ms. Gardner?s European palace contrasts beautifully with the surroundings of the outside world where the metallic home of the Boston Red Sox-Fenway Park- is only blocks away . For once, the hype of the museum was exceeded by reality. As clichéd as the metaphor may be, you sense that you have been transported to another world where Asian, European, Arabic and Pacific artworks, plants and eccentricities co-exist in a simultaneously haphazard and fluid manner.

I am extremely jealous of Ms. Gardner?s former lifestyle- jet-setting around the world with her husband, collecting at whim various precious artefacts and pieces of art. She was a lucky lady. Do not arrive at the Museum though with expectations of seeing the most prolific pieces of art arranged in the most tasteful or logical manner. Rather, expect to see the quirky and unique collection of a well-travelled woman and the decadent manner in which she has decided to display it.
