Sultan Abdulmecit I had this palace built in the 19th century. It took 13 years (1843-1856) to complete this imitation of Louvre Palace in Paris and Buckingham Palace in London. Soon the Ottoman Empire collapsed and nobody used the building for more than 30 years. The last man to use the place was Ataturk.

It’s a museum now, with a large collection of hand-made silk carpets.
