"How to find this lovely village" Forst Favorite Tip by Trekki

Favorite thing: You should not try and drive to Forst along the Wine Route, coming from Bad Dürkheim – as Bad Dürkheim traffic around the Big Vat will drive you nuts (it even made me mad – it was crammed with people and cars early April – so even more full in summer). Take the B 217 instead (B = Bundesstrasse = federal road, yellow sign), direction Neustadt and get off at Deidesheim. Then drive north to Forst, approx. 2 km.
My description so far is only about the lovely main road and the restaurant. But according to Forst’s website, there is much more to discover. As soon as I will come back (which I will do), I’ll report more.
It should be lovely to follow the recommendations given in the website and walk a bit through vineyards on the litte hills west of the village, where Pechsteinkopf is located. That’s a hill where ages ago, lava came flowing out and left a basalt quarry, which was used until around 1980. Forst also has a fountain, dedicated to this “mining”.
