I have put the Crooked House on the off the beaten track instead of places to visit because that is exactly where it is. Situated off the Himley Road down Crooked House Lane which is narrow in places that you have to pull over to let the cars pass coming in the opposite direction you will arrive at a dead end which is where you will find the Crooked House. It is a very popular tourist attraction and in the summer months gets very very busy. Built in 1765 as a farmhouse in an area that was extensively mined for coal. The southern part of the house sank by several feet when the area was hit by a subsidence problem. The building survived and later became a pub known as Siden House (Siden being Black Country dialect for crooked). It was later named the Glynne Arms after Sir Steven Glynne the landowner and and brother in law to William Gladstone. The pub was condemned in the 1940's but the decision was reversed when Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries bought it and later became know by its present name The Crooked House. It is one of the few pubs where you can feel disoriented and dizzy without touching a drop. Visitors can experience a variety of optical illusions including marbles rolling uphill and drinks sliding up the table. The Crooked house is supposedly Haunted
