Despite its name, Hotel Central was a little way outside the main centre of Sokode. It was however, a delightful place to stay. We arrived with plenty of time to settle in before it got dark, and we even had time to do some laundry.
The hotel was set in some very nice grounds, with one main building where the reception and restaurant, as well as some of the rooms were based. The rest of the rooms were little rondavels dotted around the grounds – very nice! Our little hut was at the far end, right up against the fence down by the main road. I say main road, but it you are worried about the noise of the passing traffic, don’t be. There isn’t any. For noise, you should be more worried about the enormous sound system in the outside bar in the grounds up by the main building.
The room was spacious, with a small terrace outside (where we hung our washing, but were told by the security guard to take it inside as it may cause too much of a temptation for the passing public seeing it from the main road). There were a couple of chairs out there too, but the mosquitoes discouraged us to sit there after dark.
The inside was equally spacious, with a small vestibule, housing a couple of chairs and a coffee table with ample space for luggage to be stored. We liked this place very much. The bedroom had one double and a single bed, so we could have taken in lodgers should have been so inclined. The bed was comfortable, and the en suite shower (accessible from the vestibule, not the bedroom which was rather strange) was the best we had on the entire trip through West Africa!
