Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy is a city in the Kiev area of Ukraine with the population more than 30 thousand inhabitants, an administrative centre of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy area. The is located on the coast of the river Trubezh-the left inflow of Dnepr.
The name of city means " has adopted glory ".
Prince Vladimir Svjatoslavich has put in pawn here a greater fortress for protection of southern boundaries of Russia against steppe nomads. Sometimes assume, that some time in Pereyaslavl there was a residence of Russian metropolitans while in Kiev the Sofia cathedral has not been constructed. From middle X of a century the city was capital Perejaslavskogo of a princedom which played the major role in protection of Russia from pechenegs, In 1239 Pereyaslavl has been destroyed by Tatars.
