I found the YMCA / Salisbury Hotel on the internet but ended up booking our stay through FlightCentre. That was a mistake, as I could have got a much better rate on the net, as it turned out. But it was still well worth it. We were right next door to Hong Kong's legendary Peninsula Hotel, with the same views, at a fraction of the price. Our room was everything we needed, breakfast was fine (but watch out for hidden extra prices, like hot eggs).

The location was fabulous and I'd recommend anyone on a budget to stay here. Make sure you book a harbour view room, though, as not all of them have this bonus! It made a huge difference to our stay; let's face it, without a view you could be staying anywhere.

Unique Qualities: There were plenty of facilities we didn't check out - when we were in our room, we were too busy glued to the window watching the action on Victoria Harbour. Every night at 8pm there was an amazing 20 minute laser light and firework display on the skyscrapers opposite - it was like New Year's Eve every night.

The rest of the time was spent exploring Hong Kong. We could easily walk to the Star Ferry from the hotel, as well as to the Temple Street Night Market and a thousand other fun places. Location superb, view fantastic, value outstanding.
