"Country Cottage Charm" Northern Light Inn Tip by Clocky

Northern Light Inn, Grindavík: 840 reviews and 7 photos

A very different stay at what's basically a very large bungalow on the edge of the Blue Lagoon facility. The hotel has around 20 or so rooms and the general feel is that you're staying in a good friends house in the middle of nowhere, rather than just another faceless hotel. There's not a whole lot to do outside of the Lagoon itself, so those winter evenings tend to find the guests sitting around the fire in the central area with cups of tea and the odd laptop for company. This may sound frightfully tedious, but in actual fact the overall effect is quite charming and great for unwinding - especially, if like many, you elect to make here your last destination before heading to Keflavik airport.

Unique Qualities: The hotel is a matter of yards from Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon. That's fairly unique enough; add in the views of mountains, lava fields and the geothermal Svartsengi Power Plant at the rear, and this probably isn't like anywhere else you've stayed.

Price Comparison: more expensive than average
