"A place to go back to" Travelodge Hotel Southbank Melbourne Tip by supermike

The travel lodge isn't directly on the bank of the Yarra but runs parallel a street further. The Commonwealth games were being held just after we arrived. The people at the travel lodge are very helpfull and like all the Australians we met, very friendly. The travel lodge is quite new. Don't go for the view because it's between the high rise buidlings along the Yarra but otherwise it's a great place to stay. The room was nice and cosy with a fridge , bathroom, double bed etc. The television was a dissapointing surprise because they have only a handfull of channels.
Everyday we had a large choise in breakfast and dinner if we were in the area. There are a large ammount of places to eat directly near the Lodge and Australians aren't scroungy and load your plate and yes, once again very friendly.
There is a shortage of parking places in Melbourne but the Lodge has an arrangement with the garage on the otherside of the road. For a few dollars the (rent) car can stay there till 11:00 oclock in the morning. Afterwards the price naturally goes up. We had to get used to driving on the wrong side (left) of the road. It was a disaster at first but after a while we got the knack of it.
The train station is on the other side of the river at the Finders street station. A beautifull old building. The trams ride around very frequently.
