"Frankfurter "Dom"" Cathedral - Dom Saint Bartholomew Tip by yooperprof
Cathedral - Dom Saint Bartholomew, Frankfurt am Main: 31 reviews and 62 photos
My guidebook tells me that this isn't now (and has never been) a real Cathedral, because there's isn't a bishop in residence. Only that Frankfurt is so wealthy that the church decided that if the city wanted to call its church a "dom" it should be allowed to. True? I don't know. But this is indeed where the electors of the Holy Roman Empire gathers to make their choice for the next ruler of the H.R.E.
The Frankfurter Dom has been built and rebuilt many times over the centuries. For example, the Gothic Style tower was only finished in the 1860s - and renovated in the 1990s. But those with an interest in the accretions of the past will be fascinated by the overlaps of time.
