The Galis are the labyrinth of small alleyways that lead down to the Ganga, They are Both Full of Life and also Full of death as these Galis are the only way down to the Burning Ghats so often you will come across parties of men bringing their dead down to the Ganga for cremation.
These are also the only way down to the Ghat side hotels, So if you decide to book one of these to stay in it is a Very Good Idea to arrange for a Railway Station / Airport pick up, many of the hotels offer these free of charge.
Don?t be put off by the confusing array of Galis, they nearly all eventually either lead to the Ganga or out to the main streets, Inevitably you Will get lost, But you will equally inevitably find yourself again !!
To Miss exploring the Galis would be like missing seeing half of Varanasi !!
