Newark, or Newark upon Trent to give it's full title is clearly intimately connected to it's waterway - so a look at the river is certainly a 'must do '

It would be difficult to seel the River Trent as a 'beautiful' river, but it it is an attractive enough place to be as it glides past the centre of the town.

Newark has not really caught onto the full tourist and commercial possibilities of a waterfront area yet, so amongst the small scale projects, there are still buildings that a crying out for re-generation.

The river itself runs past the Castle and then passes through an area of warehouses and locks that is worth exploring. Here you will find a couple of cafes, a pottery (in a Warehouse still emblazoned with 'Newark Egg packers Ltd') a small museum, and a couple of pubs. I also enjoyed the tiny park in one of the housing developments that featured a couple of otters on a rock.
