Hoathwaite Farm Caravan and Camping: "Lakeside Camping" Coniston Hotel Tip by nickandchris

This is a very basic farm site that has the bonus of being on Coniston Water's lake side. There are 40 acres to choose where to pitch, some of it sloping, some level, by the water. Although it says caravans, it is strictly speaking a tent only site. However, as long as you pitch some sort of tent, it doesn't matter what sort of vehicle you arrive in. This means you can stay in a motorhome, just so long as you put up a tent.

At the top of the fild there is a 5 van only pitching area for Caravan Club members only. This is away from the lake.

Unique Qualities: We tried this site out one weekend and took our boat out on the lake. Very handy as you can camp right by the water so not too much humping the boat about to do. Unfortunately, the site was extremely busy with some sort of sporting affair on, canoeing, biking, walking etc. Still, for the price, it's a good site on the water's edge.

There are NO facilities apart from water and chemical disposal point.

£3 - £5 a night. Good value for this part of the world.
