A solider praying in front of King Mengrai
by mim95

King Mengrai was a powerful leader of what is now Northern Thailand. He founded Chiang Rai in 1262 as the capital, and then moved the capital to Chiang Mai in 1296.

Thai people have great respect to King Mengrai and many would pray with the two palms together when passing by the statue. They also bring incense, flowers and other offerings to pray in front of the statue.

Directions: Bounded by the Superhighway 1, Uttarakit Road and Singhaklai Road in the NE part of Chiang Rai
