This pleasant square is built on the area that was once the forum of Roman Valencia, and was the centre point, where the main North to South and East - West Highways intersected!
Entering the Square from Calle Caballeros, it was a surprise to see such an open space, after wandering around the surrounding narrow streets.
To the left, and behind is a Gothic 15th Century building -The Palau de la Generalitat, which is the seat of Government for the Valencia region.
An adjoining small park with orange and lemon trees plus a few statues, looked as if this might be a welcome shaded part during the heat of summer.
In the plaza is an impressive fountain, (Please see my folowing tip) and opposite is the Nuestra Senora de los Desamparados, (Please see my previous tip) the Crypta de la Carcel de San Vicente Martir, and one side of the Cathedral.
This a popular place for local socialising, with pavement cafes, and restaurants.
This is where Many of the young locals and students gather at night, to sit and chat, while enjoying a drink or 2!
