The name of Aradi vértanúk street (the road of the Arad martyrs) preserves the memory of those thirteen martyrs who died in the war of liberation, which succeeded the revolution on March 15, 1848. The pedestals on the upper promenade were made for the statues of the martyrs of the 1848/49 revolution and war of liberation who were executed in Arad in retaliation.
