The Eiffel Tower as seen from Champ de Mars

Most people are lazy and take the elevator all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower, but there is another way if you're more daring or athletic: the stairs!

Now the stairs do not go up to the very top, but they do go up to the first and second viewing decks, about half of the way up the tower. Not only are they a unique way to get up to the Eiffel Tower's viewing decks, but it's also free! If you're on a budget, walking the stairs is a great way to save money. Once you get to the viewing decks, you can also enjoy a coffee, or buy one of many tacky souvenirs from the shops.

Once you get to the second viewing deck, you can purchase a ticket to take the elevator to the very top of the tower. It's a smaller viewing deck at the very top, but hey... it's the very top of the Eiffel Tower! Pay a bit of money, and go! Then you can call home and tell them, "yes, I went to the top", and you'll never have to do it again.

Or you can do it again.

I would!

The views are great, although probably better when it's sunny, and not cloudy (like the day I went).

When you go back home, everyone will be asking you if you went to the Eiffel Tower. Watch their jaws drop in amazement as you tell them you climbed the stairs! ;)
