Telegrafbukta, S tip of Tromsø island

Tromsø city is spread out all over the Tromsø island ("Romssasuolo" in Saami language)divided into different districts with no resemblance to the place: Langenes penninsula is not a penninsula, Breivika Bay is no bay as far as I can see, and Telegrafbukta Bay is a penninsula - it just goes on and on. The island is easily travelled, though, even by skis on a north-south 11 km track right on top. And luckily, there is no debate where the city centre is, down by the sea and main harbour on the eastern side where the Tromsø bridge lands. The divisions of Tromsø seems to be largely functional and spillover housing development is now forced onto the mainland in the suburbs (locals would hate that connotation) Thomasjord, Kroken and on Kvaløya, Kvaløysletta.

Directions: The tourist services here will give you an island and downtown map.
