207 steps up a spiral staircase, leads to a 360 degree view of Valencia where you can see out to the Mediterranean sea. (You can also sit down and catch your breath / wait for your legs to stop shaking!!)
Built in 14-15th century, this 166 ft high Gothic tower is one of Valencias landmarks.
12 bells are to be found in the belfry, with the largest weighing 11,000 kilos! A bell appeared to ring every 15 minutes, while we were up there.
Jaime de Aragon built the tower, as an addition to the cathedral.
The tower is named Miguelete or Micalet as it was blessed on St Michaels Day in 1418
Enter through the Cathedral, pay your 2 Euros at the kiosk (1 Euro under 14s and discounted) then brace yourself for the climb! Not advisable for those with walking/breathing problems!! (Although our Patsy bravely managed it without needing resuscitation)
There were guide books /leaflets about the cathedral for sale here.
Mon- Sun 10.00-1300hrs and 16.30 -20.00hrs.
We were quite amused to see a small party had been locked in at the bottom of the tower just after 2000hrs, as the ticket vendor had locked up, and wandered off to one of the cathedral chapels, she returned later to release them!
My tip is to arrive just before sunset- and make sure you have your camera!
