Jhan Thong Banbua: "Delicious, Flavourful Thai Food" Top 5 Page for this destination Santa Rosa Restaurant Tip by WulfstanTraveller

Santa Rosa Restaurants: 65 reviews and 48 photos

This is a great Thai restaurant owned by the same people who opened the Jhan Thong place in the Northgate Mall down in San Rafael. The food is consistently wonderful and tasty. The quality is essentially the same as the one in San Rafael (often ranked as one of the best, if not the best, Thai place in San Rafael even though it's in a mall) but here there's the added benefit of a full restaurant. it has been providing consistently great food since the early 1990s, when they took over and remodelled the central building of an old motel from circa 1950.

I should not that some people do criticize this as not being very "authentic." However, while perhaps one can find more authentic places, the bottom line is that the good is consistently well prepared from good ingredients, fresh, and full of flavours. One can also always get delicious hot sauce to add to make the food more spicy, too, and there is plenty of tangy fish sauce, etc., in most dishes.

Favorite Dish: The mee siam noodles (with extra hot sauce on the side), param (spinach and peanut sauce over rice with meat or tofu), spring rolls, beef in oyster sauce, and others. I also love the Salad Jhan Thong, with a lightly creamy, very flavourful, and slightly spicy dressing.

They have the best spring rolls and param, in my opinion, in the whole North Bay. Their peanut sauce is wonderful - it is very flavourful and complex, rich without being heavy, overly thick, or too peanutty. Some dishes are not automatically very spicy, but one can ask for them to be hotter or, my favourite, ask for hot sauce on the side to add as much as one wants.

I noted the price is less than $10 per person, since one can frequently be within this bracket, but it can be in the next bracket depending on what and how much one orders.
