"Rochester Cathedral" Kent Things to Do Tip by leffe3

Kent Things to Do: 122 reviews and 271 photos

Rochester is England's 2nd oldest cathedral after Canterbury - dating from 604AD when it was founded by Bishop Justus. The present day building dates from 1080 and the work of Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester and the same man responsible for the stone fortifications of the castle.

It's a surprisingly plain cathedral, the emphasis being on the age rather than the decor, but combined with the castle across the road, Rochester makes an interesting an easy day out from London.
